HP 14-Q001 Chromebook review

The main aim of Chromebook is to make computing at low cost and provide good battery life. The Chromebook is lather ideal for those people relying on Google apps for its tasty deal. It is mainly relevant for home users, students or professionals who would like to just access their mails, spreadsheets and media. The OS is not relevant for third party software installations, hence not suitable for developers. The main challenge is how the OS will be easy to adapt in a world where people have been used to Windows and Mac OS X as the major graphical user interface operating systems.

The price of Chromebook is around $279. This makes it cheap and affordable to many who would like simple services.

Build and design

HP Chromebook is available in peach, white and blue colors. White color is not preferred by many for it is much sensitive to dirt, hence wrong perception on the users. The lid and bezel around the screen are white, with a plain non-reflective finish while the keyboard deck and touchpad have a silver finish. Chromebook have two HDMI out, two USB ports and 3.5mm headphone jack on its left side, making it conventional. In addition, it has one USB port and a memory card reader on its right side.

Change from windows or Mac OS X

Most of the apps that you require to run on Chrome OS require Chrome browser. Apps can be downloaded, although they will be web based versions. The learning curve of this new technology is sharp. This is due to the following reasons:

  • it require knowledge of Google docs.
  • Since it is heavily reliant on Dropbox, transferring everything to Google drive requires another step.

As an operating system, Chrome OS has the following advantages:

  • uncluttered and
  • to the point

Due to the above advantages, Chrome OS is for someone who need simple laptop for web browsing, Streaming media, Accessing e-mails and Playing old casual games.

Performance

The high processing speed and less memory dependent nature of chrome OS, it provide longer battery life with very high processing speed.
